Sustainability Focus

At Green Bowl Foods, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword

It’s the core of our mission. We’re committed to redefining food’s legacy by upcycling overlooked ingredients and reducing our environmental impact.

Our innovative processes are at the heart of our sustainability journey. We collaborate with local partners, such as juice factories and breweries, to source high-quality byproducts like carrot and spinach pulp, quinoa, and brewer’s spent grain. These partnerships not only prevent valuable ingredients from ending up in landfills but also contribute to a circular economy.

Our commitment to innovation doesn’t stop there. We continuously explore creative ways to minimize waste and carbon footprint in our production and packaging processes. From eco-friendly packaging materials to efficient production techniques, every step we take is designed to leave a smaller environmental footprint.

What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is a creative and eco-friendly process of taking old or discarded items and transforming them into something new and valuable, often with improved quality or functionality. Instead of throwing things away, upcycling encourages repurposing and giving new life to materials or products, reducing waste and environmental impact. It’s a way to combine resourcefulness and sustainability while reducing the need for new raw materials.

What is Upcycled Ingredient?

What does it mean Upcycled Certified?

“Upcycled Certified” signifies our commitment to sustainable food practices. As proud members of the   Upcycled Food Association (UFA), we adhere to their definition of upcycling: “Foods that use ingredients that otherwise would not have gone to human consumption, are procured and produced using verifiable supply chains, and have a positive impact on the environment.” When you see the “Upcycled Certified” label on our products, it assures you that we are transforming overlooked ingredients into delicious, sustainable meals, reducing waste, and contributing to a greener planet.

Why Upcycled Ingredients?

At Green Bowl Foods, we’re not only passionate about upcycled ingredients; we’re on a mission to turn these culinary gems into delicious, nutritious solutions. We recognize that many valuable ingredients, like carrot pulp, spinach pulp, Brewer’s spent grain and quinoa often go to waste in landfills, despite their incredible health benefits.

For instance, carrot pulp is low sugar ingredient which provides antioxidants that protect against chronic diseases and support healthy vision. Spinach pulp, another nutritional powerhouse, is rich in nutrients that combat inflammation and promote heart and bone health. Quinoa, often overlooked for being under or oversized, is a versatile grain packed with protein and essential nutrients.

Brewer’s spent grain, often discarded in the brewing process, is a fiber and protein-rich treasure that aids digestion and lowers cholesterol.
